Welcome to The Smoketree Neighborhood Watch Program! The NWP is a proven crime reduction program. But, like any self-help activity, its success depends upon you and your neighbor. The goal of the NWP is to protect our neighborhood from crime, as well as establishing a community that is rich in service and citizenship. The Smoketree NWP is sponsored by the Chesterfield County Police Department. This website will provide you with information on getting involved and helping Smoketree become a safer place to live. You will find answers to frequently asked questions, alerts on crimes that hit close to home, monthly reports from the county and much more.

| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
How does the NWP work? Neighborhod Watch operates to educate participants in the priciples of deterrence, delay and detection. The program depends on a communication network organized with several levels of participants - the resident, block captains and a local law enforcement representative. Vilgilante actions are in no way condoned by the NWP. No one is asked to take personal risks or be a hero.

What can I do as a resident? Attend meetings and read monthly reports. Secure your home and your property. Follow the recommendations from the NWP and participate as much as possible. Be alert to suspicious activity and report it immediately. Have your newspaper stopped and mail picked up when away. Inform your neighbors and block captains if you plan to be away so that special attention can be given to your home.

What is the role of a Block Captain? Act as liaison between homeowners and the Smoketree Association. Distribute literature to designated area when necessary.

What do I do if I see suspicious activity? There are three ways to call the police while a possible crime is in progress. If the issue is non-emergent, call the Chesterfield County non-emergency police at 804-748-1251. You can have them come out to your home to file a report or simply speak to the dispatched officer over the phone. You can request to be contacted back with the outcome or you can refrain from giving them your name and number. If the situation is of emergency nature, call 911 immediately. If you have information regarding a crime that has already been committed, it may be useful to police and detectives trying to solve the crime. In that case, you can contact Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660 and remain completely annonymous. They will never ask for your name or any other personal information. For more information, see our Crime Solvers page.

Although the SNWP is continuously working to prevent crime in our community, we are simply a volunteer organization. Therefore, the SNWP nor block captains can be held liable for any crime not prevented or lack of notice of a crime that may be committed.
